The sad news. A magnificent synagogue with a capacity for 800 persons was left abandoned for decades. The Jews who lived in Edirne either moved away or were "forced away" during the horrors of World War II. After initiating a renovation of the building, and with it almost completed, the mayor of the city changed his mind.
"Because of Israel's actions against the Palestinians, this synagogue building will become a Government Museum", he said.
Strong reactions have met the mayor's decision.
